About Urchin Studios
The idea for Urchin Studios was born out of a conversation between an engineer and a musician that played out as follows:
At some point in early 2005, after spending both a day and a sum of cash sitting in a stale windowless room, passively watching a humourless individual defile their music, Urchin creators Matt Ingram and Dan Cox asked themselves the following question:
Why have we just spent a disproportionately large amount of money to sit in a recording studio with a dour, chain-smoking engineer, who has ultimately made our music suck?
This question led to another question:
Is the attitude of the studio toward the music reflected in the price?
Which naturally led to...
If we spend more money, do we get a better attitude?
In time, this leads to more questions like:
It’s very well to put a price on piece of equipment
but a willingness to create, an engagement with the material (a musical joy de vivre if you will), these things should simply come as standard... right?
Apparently not.
So, appalled at the lax attitude of what has become a recording standard, Matt and Dan created Urchin Studios, somewhere that refreshingly puts the needs of the artist first.
It is no surprise then that Urchin has quickly developed a strong reputation amongst London’s musical community as a place of inspired music making.
Urchin wants to do it your way, and whatever the demands, the Studio will listen to and accommodate the specific needs of any recording project.
